Why AI agents need a real inbox

An agent driving a signup form, testing a login flow, or provisioning QA data hits the same wall a human tester does: a confirmation email with a code or link it has no way to read. OTPBox exists to remove that wall — a disposable inbox and automatic code/link extraction, callable the way an agent actually works: mid-task, via a tool call.

The problem, concretely

A signup or login flow that emails a one-time code or a confirmation link can't be finished by an agent alone — something has to receive that email and hand the code back. Before an agent had first-class ways to do this, the usual options were all workarounds: a human relaying the code, a shared test inbox that leaks state between runs and test suites, or a mocked email layer that proves nothing about the real flow. None of these scale to an agent running unattended, and the mocked-email option specifically defeats the point of an end-to-end test.

• Finish a signup end-to-end. Create an inbox, fill the form, wait_for_email, get_otp, submit — the whole loop in agent-callable steps, no human in it.
• Test 2FA and magic-link login, not just initial signup — the same extraction covers password-reset and magic-link emails via get_verification_link, classified by type.
• Generate realistic QA data. create_test_identity and create_bulk_test_identities produce synthetic personas (name, email, country, role) backed by real inboxes — up to 50 at once.
• React to events instead of polling. register_webhook subscribes to inbox, message, and identity events, so a longer-running agent process gets a signed POST instead of holding a loop open.
